Compound Formulation
Results of Covaris particle sizing study looking at dispersal of a range of “difficult” inhaled compounds in aqueous suspension.
Potential Impact on Inhaled Programmes
Covaris-dispersed non-micronised suspensions are very effective in micronising drug suspensions
•to allow in vivo testing with much smaller (mg) amounts of drug substance
• permit testing without scaled-up re-synthesis
• avoid repeated studies (currently some studies carried out with non micronised compound followed by repeat studies with micronised)
–could reduce animal use
–could have a significant impact on the throughput of inhaled lead optimisation programmes for the future
–possible further impact in size reduction of poorly-soluble compounds for oral programmes
Screening non-micronised drug through 100µm screen,
•conventional micronising requires more drug than if using Covaris,
