Blood / Tissue / Saliva / Plant Purification Services
The first step in any study investigating genetic differences in an organism
of interest is the purification of genomic DNA from blood or other tissue.
KBioscience has a long pedigree of performing high quality DNA extractions. We have developed this pedigree due to gaining insight into DNA prepared utilising various extraction chemistries supplied to our Genotyping Department. We took this knowledge and applied it to create our Extraction service a number of years ago. Initially we utilised comercially availbale DNA extraction kits but fairly quickly embarked on a R&D program to create an extraction technique that had to be as good as or better than the market leaders such as Qiagen, but more amenable to a routine production facility at a fraction of the cost. We pioneered this in blood extractions, but have expanded this to the majority of tissue types such as rodent tails, seed and leaf samples and saliva. Recently we have released kits to the market for customers who wish to perform the extractions themselves under the Klear Gene brand.
Prices / Cost
KBioscience prides itself on the flexibility and quality of its service. When comparing our services to other providers please be aware that there are no hidden costs. Our prices are inclusive of DNA quantitation, normalisation and production of one aliquot of normalised DNA if required, 2D datamatrix tubes and indefinite storage of all or a subset of the purified DNA if required. There is no additional charge for this storage, many customers prefer this as any genotyping required can then be expedited quickly as we have the samples already in our freezers.

Quality Control
KBioscience strives for the highest possible quality in its purification
service. Each sample is subjected to the following rigorous QC criteria
- Each extraction is run on an agarose gel to ensure samples are high molecular weight
- OD260/280 must be greater than 1.6
- Each purified DNA is supplied with a concentration determined by Spectrophotometric analysis
- For sample numbers >48 a random subset of the DNA is included in a KASP genotyping reaction. It must perform well giving a clear genotype to meet QC criteria.
